The Basics
By Dave Simpson

Picture

"I have used Canon DSLR now for a number of years, and have attended evening courses which covered a lot of theory and homework.
But when I’m out on the field – it’s still like – what setting do I use - particularly in harsh light?

With Dave in just [a few] hours my photography skills were taken to the next level!
Dave taught me how to quickly take photos without having to resort to Auto mode, with plenty of opportunities to practice, panning, long exposure, aperture priority and line up great shots.
I will be heading to Australia in a couple of weeks’ time feeling more confident about my abilities

Intro:
The Basics workshop will have you up to speed on the basics of how your camera works, and more importantly, how you can take control of your camera to get the pictures you want.

Do you feel like you're not getting the most out of your camera?  Do your eyes glaze over when you look at the various settings and dials?  Do you wish you could control things like depth of field and motion blur?  This is the course for you!

This is a non-intimidating, fun and practical workshop where you will learn how to get the best out of your camera.

Dave has designed this workshop so that you can improve your skills in utilising your camera to the fullest and learn how to capture those special moments, whether that be a field of flowers, a street scene, a rolling landscape or a birthday party!

This is a practical course and you will have a chance to try out what you have learned with your own camera.

Topics discussed during the workshop:
  • How your camera sees the world
  • The limitations of auto mode and why you should take more control
  • When and how to use shutter priority mode for blurring or freezing motion
  • When and how to use aperture priority mode to control depth of field
  • When and how to use manual mode (and the benefits of auto-ISO)
  • What the various metering modes mean
  • How lens choice can change your pictures
  • Other camera settings such as RAW vs jpeg, shooting modes, focus modes, white balance.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
A camera capable of shooting in shutter priority and aperture priority (if in doubt, ask us to confirm before booking!)
